lol as it should! So does it work with no security? Also, I know there are several variants of WPA and WPA2 in the wild that technically are outside of the 802.11 standard, but most devices support anyway. Do you know what settings it was using (TKIP/AES/both)? We might be having trouble with some variants.
If it does connect with no security, I would try it with other variations of security modes as well, see if we can find ones that do and don't work.
